Pointless Life Ambition No. 49

To perform in the inaugural kabuki version of Little Women.
Stupid Word Tricks No.2

One could say that Thurston Moore's iconic band had outlived its youthfulness.

Pointless Plug

To tell of my relationship with Peter McIver would be... well, telling; and would make public more than I am willing to in this forum. I would however like to point out that his debut solo album, before it ends - let it begin, has been spotted around the traps. It's a collection of old and new songs, hauntingly melodic (not in an Enya way, more like mid-career Stephen Cummings).

If you'd like a copy, contact Mr McIver directly and I'm sure you'll be able to come to some mutually acceptable arrangement.
Pointless Life Ambition No. 47

To make it through today without killing anyone.

Pointless Life Ambition No. 45

To actually meet a Nicomachean ethicist.
Pointless Plug **new feature**

If you like the kind of music that looks nervous and awkward, shifts it's weight from left foot to right foot and not talking to anybody when you take it to a genre party, check out local (Adelaide, South Australia) band, the Silvermine Tapes. They have a website with tasty samples to enjoy, including a track from their new album, A Tenuous Thread from Patterns in Static's online shop.

Full Disclosure: the guys promised me a pony ride and an ice-cream for every 20 album purchasers that mention "pointlesslifeambitions.blogspot.com".

Pointless Life Ambition No. 44

To write a bildungsroman that captures the zeitgeist, and yet also reflects the deep weltschmerz of my generation but without dwelling on its angst, as if in a kind of Caufieldian schadenfreude. It's backdrop would be the sturm und drang of the weltanschauung, but would also consider the current schwärmerei for all things kitsch.

Of course, it would naturally be translated into German.
Pointless Life Ambition No. 43

To not read Finnegans Wake.

(I think I'll be able to manage this one, even if I fall off the wagon and reread Dubliners or A Portrait or the Artist.)
Pointless Life Ambition No. 42

To somehow avoid making any painfully obvious Douglas Adams references at this juncture.

Pointless Life Ambition No. 41

To spend more quality time with my family.

Wednesday, November 09, 2005

Pointless Life Ambition No. 40

To get over the Nigella Lawson crush I've had since I bought my first double boiler.

Monday, November 07, 2005

Pointless Life Ambition No. 39

To get over the Winona Ryder crush I've been nursing for fifteen years.

(Sorry, Winona - it's better this way.)
Pointless Life Ambition No. 38

To one day get around to not procrastinating so damn much.
Pointless Life Ambition No.37

To start a 175 page novel before the end of the month.

Thursday, November 03, 2005

Pointless Life Ambition No. 36

To complete a 175 page novel in a month. Writing it, I mean.

(Yes, just as the clown longs to perform Hamlet, I too harbour literary aspirations).

Wednesday, November 02, 2005

Pointless Life Ambition No. 35

To actually get around to posting to my other blog sometime before the end of the year (at this rate less realistic than it sounds).

Pointless Observation No. 2

The wisdom of Rock 'n' Roll:

"No, you can't always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, you just might find you get what you need."

This from a bunch of guys that haven't really had to worry that much about getting either for certainly the last thirty-or-so years.

Thing is, though - it's true.
